AcubeSAT

AcubeSAT is an open source project. Be sure to check our design files and much more at AcubeSAT’s GitLab page!
AcubeSAT is a multidisciplinary project by SpaceDot, a team led by ambitious students and researchers primarily from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. It consists of a 3U CubeSat (dimensions of 340x100x100 mm) hosting a biological payload. The space mission is realized with the support of the European Space Agency (ESA) Education Office. The team is part of the “Fly Your Satellite! 3” ESA programme.
I started working on the AcubeSAT project on January 2018. My work there began with studying and planning for the spacecraft’s orbit (mission analysis), before moving to the Attitude Determination & Control System where we designed the early architecture of the attitude control system for the spacecraft. Since February 2019, I worked as the Lead Systems Engineer for the project. After 4.5 years wonderful years, I stepped down from my duties in mid 2022.
This project has provided me a plethora of memories, friends, experiences and skills, which largely shaped who I am today. It is an enormous effort done mostly by undergraduate and graduate students. It is a story of underdogs: some random students fighting against all odds to send something into space. But damn it is worth it. I still try to help the team as an advisor and complete a task for the project whenever I have some spare time.
