Impact of COVID-19 on AcubeSAT

The global COVID-19 pandemic reshaped the entire world for better or for worse. Most notably, it allowed for a large-scale experimentation of hybrid and remote work models. This change also affected the AcubeSAT project that I have been working on. When the COVID-19 pandemic started, AcubeSAT was kicking off the detailed design phase, where the design of a satellite is solidified and prototyping activities take place. Many things had to quickly change to enable the transition to a hybrid work model for the project.
For the 4th Symposium on Space Educational Activities (SSEA), I have authored a paper together with Theodoros Papafotiou and Konstantinos Kanavouras, presenting the remote work model for AcubeSAT including the changes in infrastucture, team structure, meetings and the concurrent design technique. The paper also includes feedback from an interval AcubeSAT survey conducted to the team and highlights some of the positive and negative impact that the remote work scheme has had.
