Space Missions

Introduction

I have been involved in a plethora of space missions, both during my academic and professional carreer. In this page, I want to quickly summarize some achievements and milestones I have reached so far and briefly note my involvement in the different space missions I have participated in.

At SpaceDot/Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

Short description

I have worked in two missions at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki under the SpaceDot team, one during my undergraduate/graduate years (AcubeSAT) and one as a contractor after graduating (PeakSat). I’ve worked from conceptual design to early manufacturing for these missions. As my alma mater, I care deeply about both of these missions and closely follow their progress.

At Satellogic

Short description

My first professional experience, where my ultimate goal was to get hands on experience with the operational aspects of space systems. Satellogic is an incredibly ambitious company with awesome technology. Operating all of the following spacecraft has been an extremely rewarding experience for me so far.

Description of the different phases

To describe my involvement in each mission, I am using the ECSS-M-ST-10C Rev.1 – Project planning and implementation (6 March 2009) standard, which defines the 7 project phases for a space mission as follows:

PhaseShort Description
Phase 0Mission analysis/needs identification
Phase AFeasibility
Phase BPreliminary Definition
Phase CDetailed Definition
Phase DQualification and Production
Phase EUtilization
Phase FDisposal

For a full description and activities during each phase, feel free to read through the standard!

Phase 0, A and B

Phases 0, A, and B are focused mainly on:

  • the elaboration of system functional and technical requirements and identification of system concepts to comply with the mission statement, taking into account the technical and programmatic constraints identified by the project initiator and top level customer.
  • the identification of all activities and resources to be used to develop the space and ground segments of the project,
  • the initial assessments of technical and programmatic risk,
  • initiation of pre‐development activities.

Phase C and D

Phases C and D comprise all activities to be performed in order to develop and qualify the space and ground segments and their products.

Phase E

Phase E comprises all activities to be performed in order to launch, commission, utilize, and maintain the orbital elements of the space segment and utilize and maintain the associated ground segment.

Phase F

Phase F comprises all activities to be performed in order to safely dispose all products launched into space as well as ground segment.
